Confirmation

Children in Year 6 and above who live within our Parish boundaries and who have made their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are eligible to enrol for Confirmation.

2024 Dates and Program Requirements

Ss Peter and Paul Parish Confirmation Program is an at-home preparation program which revolves around attendance at Mass as a member of the parish community. Parents journey with their child in preparing for Confirmation by supporting them through their workbooks and reflection sheets at home, and then attending Mass to hand in the completed work. In this way both parent and child participate as a family in their Faith.

In order to successfully complete the program, the following requirements must be met before a Confirmation candidate can attend the Confirmation ceremony:

* Attendance at the Parent Information Night (at least one parent/guardian must attend)

* Attendance at the Commitment Mass (candidate and at least one parent/guardian)

* Attendance at Mass to hand in Units of Work and Reflections (candidate and at least one parent/guardian)

* Attendance at the Retreat Day (candidate only)

All dates for the program are in the Program Outline which can be downloaded by clicking on the buttons below. There is a 2 page version in larger print and a 1 page version in smaller print for you to stick on your fridge or somewhere where you will see it easily.

Please download a copy of the program outline and plan your diary accordingly so that you don’t miss the cut-off dates and be forced to wait until next year for your child to receive the sacrament.

Please note the following important points:

Sponsor: The Candidate will need to choose a Sponsor for their Confirmation, which is a requirement to be able to receive the Sacrament. Just as parents cannot be a Godparent at their child’s Baptism, so too, a parent or step-parent cannot be a Sponsor for their child at Confirmation. Ideally, the sponsor would be one of their Baptismal godparents, but if this is not possible then the sponsor must be a Catholic who has received the sacrament of Confirmation and is over the age of 16 years. Other family members are welcome to be sponsors as long as they meet the criteria.

Retreat Day: Tuesday 18 June: Children must attend the Retreat Day. Parents do not need to attend this day but are welcome to volunteer to help on the day. Please speak to Colleen if you are interested in helping. The retreat day is an important part of the Confirmation program. The day involves a practice of the ceremony and Fr Chris will hear confessions. This day will be held in Ss Peter and Paul Parish Hall from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
